We’re having two weeks off!

For the second time since the show began – we’re away for two weeks. Partly because half of us are busy and partly because half of us are on holiday. Like literally everyone at the moment.

Expect us back and better than ever on the 18th of August, as we announce the finalized Youth Festival Main Stage lineup!

Have a good two weeks!

Skiminiminimineeneenee

For those of you who were listening to last week’s show, you’ll have heard Luke talk about Donae’o’s new single ‘I’m Fly’. It’s a brilliant tune, however if what happened to me the other day (shown below) happens to you, it may well put you off the song for life…

This week – Donae’o, Magnetic Man & Teenage Rampage Winners Announced!

Hello unto you.

I’ll be completely honest with you, my mood this week is ascending and descending like a small child being thrown into the air by it’s parents – and periodically, this child (aka my mood) is being dropped on it’s head by locals.

Now that I have managed to deploy a hideous analogy, it is time to tell you what is happening this week.

In terms of new music, I’ll be playing Donae’o, which was first-played on the station by James on The Edge, and at the time I was thinking ‘hmm, decent’. NOW I CAN’T STOP LISTENING TO IT. Also, it manages to improve my mood with it’s catchy lyrics: ‘SKIMINIMINEENEENEE’. Me and James have decided that a parody of this is possible, as it sounds very close to ’skimmed knee’.

I’ll be playing Magnetic Man’s massive single ‘I Need Air’ this week for the first time on the show – what an absolute tune. Look out for that just after 7pm.

They’ll be no news tonight as the satellite has ‘fallen off’. It is now humbly sat in the foyer of the office, and I am sort of tempted to paint an arrogant face on it, as if to make it look like the satellite has gone on strike. The truth is, the station’s move is reaching it’s peak, and we are literally moving EVERYTHING! (thus the satellite being on the floor.)

I’ll be throwing ahead to Invincible – got your tickets for that yet?

Patchwork Prophets @ Teenage Rampage

Patchwork Prophets @ Teenage Rampage

And finally, I shall be telling you what happened at Teenage Rampage. ‘Who won!?’ – I hear you cry. Well, we’ve got all the goss – as we were all there! We saw the performances, we know who won – and we also took some videos which’ll be on the blog after the show! And pictures – like the above. Huzzah!

Also, James’ Gypsy feature is returning to the airwaves as he’s back doing a live show for the first time in weeks! GET YOUR QUESTIONS IN! Are you going to win the lottery? Will your arms fall off? Clarissa (his gypsy) can tell you!

We are back 18:00 til 20:00 this week, so catch you then!

Luke

Summer Holidays, Teenage Rampage & Sugarhill Festival

Hello there!

Tonight on the show we’ll be celebrating the fact that the summer-bloody-holidays have arrived by playing you an eclectic mix of dance and old tunes you may have forgotten! We’ll have you feeling all summery in no time. If you’ve just finished school we want to find out what everyone is up to – loads of our team are off on holiday to nice, exotic places – are you one of those holiday-goers or do you prefer to go out in Swindon with your mates?

Next up we’ll be talking Teenage Rampage. If you haven’t heard of it before, don’t be alarmed – we’ve got Patchwork Prophets in to explain what it’s all about – and seeing as Luke is helping out with the Swindon gig on the tour, we’ve also got all the lineup information and where to get yourself to see some great local bands.

Finally, seeing as we have our friends Patchwork Prophets coming in to visit, we thought it only fitting to do something with Sugarhill Festival, which is back this year. Patchwork are on the lineup for the fest, and so Sean has decided that he would concoct a game for us all to play – ‘Know Your Sugarhill Bill’. God help us all.

Sugarhill Lineup

The lineup for Sugarhill Festival 2010

We’ve also got a special Pick N Mix tonight. This is because I got an email last week, moaning about the amount of commercial dance that gets onto the Pick N Mix and how there is a ‘lack of dubstep and other genres’. So, being myself, I decided to try and appease this listener by splitting the mix into two halves. We’ve got one dance tune, and one indie tune. Nobody suggested dubstep this week – if you’d like to hear a bit of dub, email us – studio@lukewinton.co.uk – and we’ll try and get it on next week!

If you’ve finished school, have a great summer hols!

Our trip to the O2, Big Arts Day & Youth Fest 2010

Oh, hello!

Coming up on tommorow’s show, we are having what is – to us – a quiet night in the studio. There will only be a couple of the team in, and we are going to be giving you a gentle lowdown of what is coming up over the next few weeks and months. We’ve got a massive calendar of events we are involved with, and one of them is pretty big.

Firstly, we’ll be talking about our lovely trip to the O2 Academy in Birmingham – with 17 Nations and Guitar Stools & Cigarettes. That was on the 7th July, and Sean ran the show while we were away. Expect a bit of a review of that at some point across our two hours.

Guitar Stools & Cigarettes at the O2 Academy, Birmingham

We’ll be having a bit of a chat about Big Arts Day, if you were down there drop us a line and tell us how it went. Particularly The Youth Tent & The Suju Dance Tent we are interested in hearing about.

And finally, we’ll be talking Youth Festival 2010. Luke is presenting it again this year – and over the coming weeks the lineup will be selected for this year’s main stage. If you want to keep up-to-date with news about Youth Festival, join the Facebook event group run by Jenny & Luke. The title of the group is ‘Swindon Youth Festival 2010‘ on Facebook.

Swindon Youth Festival 2010

Tune in tomorrow from 6pm to hear this and more – there is an absolute TUNE of a Pick N Mix on the show tomorrow!

ONE MORE THING – we’ll be replaying our parody, because I wasn’t in last week and haven’t actually heard it yet. You know the one I mean – ‘Wednesday Nights’ by Katy Perry and ‘Luke Dogg’. Expect that just after 6pm. I hear its rather good! We’ll make it a download after the show so you can stick it on your iPod and – who knows – maybe go for a jog with it on?

WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU THINK THE EDGE IS PRE-RECORDED?

Possibly one of the best kept secrets in British broadcasting history was let out of the bag live on air last week, as I revealed the tragedy (of other radio based commitments) that means the show will be pre-recorded for the next ten weeks. Never before had such a safe guarded fact been so sought after by the tabloids, media and local press, but now that it’s all out in the open, I felt it were necessary to write about it.

In short – I’m in Manchester for a majority of Wednesday and traveling back pretty much all of Thursday so the idea of broadcasting The Edge live just isn’t realistic, plainly because between the hours of 1800 and 2200 I’m doing something else. This will continue up until the start of September. “Woohoo” I hear you cry, “then The Edge will return in it’s former, completely live, glory?”, no. From the 6th of September I’m in New Zealand for three weeks! There is the rather exciting possibility of doing the show live from New Zealand, but it would require me to sound enthusiastic and interesting at about 8am local time, and I’m not even that when the show normally broadcasts in the evening! That won’t happen though, I’m sure we’ll be axed by then.

Also, if you were listening last week and heard a repeat from a few weeks back (to which Tom commented: “I even laughed in places!”) then it’s because of the following reasons:

1) I was in a bad mood when we went to pre-record so ended up not bothering
2) The studios weren’t properly set up so it made it nigh on impossible for me to even think about bothering

With the studio move taking place soon (well, it was supposed to happen by the end of May, but not sure what happened to that deadline!) we should be able to pre-record next week’s show in it’s entirety. That is of course, unless I’m in a crappy mood again.

FEAR NOT however, as despite the show is being pre-recorded, the same amount of effort shall be put in. You’d be surprised about how little much I prep for the show. This week, I’ve written a parody to which Luke and I have sung/rapped the lyrics to. Sean played it on Luke’s show when he was covering last Wednesday, and we’re going to play it again (without constant criticism) – it was a parody of Katy Perry’s number one single, California Gurls. Hear it this Wednesday from 9pm!

UNTIL NEXT TIME etc.

Fred Hot Chilli Peppers, Calm Like A Bomb & Plastic Fiction

Plastic Fiction play Furnace for Status Promotions

It has been a full weekend of local music for us lot, this week.

Friday brought Teenage Kicks down to The Furnace.

Saturday brought this. A one-off tribute night from Status Promotions – featuring Fred Hot Chilli Peppers (guess who they’re a tribute of?), Calm Like A Bomb (Rage Against The Machine tribute) and emo-metal band Plastic Fiction.

The tributes were brilliant – really got the crowd going, and sounded good quality! I enjoyed it, and I normally hate tributes! We had more of a focus on the next band for two reasons. A) Jess loves them, and B) they’re bloody good. Oh, also, they’re students. That’s a pretty big reason.

Plastic Fiction were on between the two tributes. If you haven’t heard of them before, they’ve played Youth Festival and we’ve talked about them on the show a bit. Infact, I would go as far as to say there was a tiny bit of a feud, but thats all over now. Sorry to dissapoint etc. They are a five-piece emotional, heavy band. Not for anyone who hates screaming. The lead vocalist is also off’ve Guitar Stools & Cigarettes (theres an interesting fact for you). They have an EP coming up soon which we are hoping to chase a copy of, but in the meantime ya’ll should check out their MySpace at www.myspace.com/theplasticfiction. They’ve done loads of Status Promotions gigs (she loves them!) and they’re pretty well established in Swindon, so if you haven’t heard of them you’ve done something dreadfully wrong.

I normally hate screaming as well. This is literally the only local screaming band that I will accept screaming from. The Screaming Gypsies aren’t included – they don’t ACTUALLY scream.

Guitar Stools & Cigarettes on Unsigned Rewind

Guitar Stools & Cigarettes were on the show!

And we forgot to take a bloody picture with them.

Regardless of this, they were excellent (as expected) and dropped a few acoustic tracks that sounded incredible. ‘Too Much Not Enough’ can be found on the podcast, head to our ‘Podcasts & Downloads’ page now to grab your free download of it all.

We asked a few interesting questions – such as ‘would you rather eat an apple or an orange?’, which enticed some interesting answers – such as ‘I’d suck an orange, I don’t like the skin.’ A really nice bunch of guys who have an abundance of talent and a fantastic sound. As we mentioned thousands of times during the show – we are with them in Birmingham for the Youth Regional Finals at the O2 Academy this week, along with another great Swindon band ‘17 Nations’, who have also been on the show. You’ll probably hear some of the members of both bands live from Birmingham this week.

One last thing regarding Guitar Stools & Cigarettes. On Sunday, as me and Jenny had mentioned on the show – there was a Battle Of The Bands, hosted at The Platform by Swindon Music Service. Guitar Stools & Cigarettes entered the BOTB, which they had won last year. The prizes for 1st place included a headline slot at Youth Festival (which they played last year as a result of their winning), radio exposure, music store vouchers and various gigs. They held their title for the 2nd year running, winning the BOTB. Congratulations guys!

They will be playing the headline slot at Swindon Youth Festival 2010, which I will be presenting on-stage (same as last year).

That is all. If you wish to hear more of this talent, head to www.myspace.com/guitarstoolsandcigarettes

More from them at Birmingham later this week!

The Costellos, Yolanda Be Cool’s massive hit and Guitar Stools & Cigarettes!

Oh! How pleasant to see you! Would you like to come in? Don’t worry about taking your shoes off – I haven’t hoovered yet. Would you like a “mug o’ brew”?

I really should update this blog more often – but you know, its much more satisfying to give you a whole-hearted blob of update-sauce, instead of just a smattering of gossip.

All is going well in the world of The Luke Winton Show, you’ll be pleased to know. Here’s what is coming up for you to feast your ears on tomorrow:

The Costellos Live

The Costellos will be in the studios from 7pm!

THE COSTELLOS ARE ON UNSIGNED REWIND. FINALLY. I sobbed tears of joy when I found out. Special thanks to Rock & Dagger Promotions for booking this one in. They’ll be doing the usual Unsigned Rewind sesh from 19:00, catch that online live as it happens HERE, or if you’re lucky enough to be in Swindon at the time, flick us on at 105.5. As usual, the podcasts will be ready-for-download after the show on our Podcasts & Downloads page! Expect some acoustic tracks and a show jingle to be aired, as well as some banter.

Also on the show – our Talent Taster this week is off’ve two Swindon bands who have both hit the final of the Youth Regional Finals – they’ll be representing Swindon (out of 14 UK bands) at the O2 Academy in Birmingham on the 7th July. 17 Nations and Guitar Stools & Cigarettes are both through to the finals. More exciting news on this later in this post – but we interviewed both the bands at Rock School where they are rehearsing for the gig – they will be played from 18:00 tomorrow, along with a track each for the Talent Taster.

The Pick N Mix has had an extension for tomorrow. THREE chances to get your track on Swindon’s airwaves. The three tracks have been selected and thrown into the mix – that’ll start from about 18:45, bringing us into The Costellos after 19:00. If you emailed in or wrote to us on Facebook, tune in and see if your track was chosen. Some excellent mixes on tomorrow.

We’ve got a new feature that we are trialling called Sean’s Sport at the moment (inventive, eh?). In this, Sean will be giving you an update on the world of football and other sport – mainly the World Cup. With an England game imminent at 14:30 before the show, its not something that you’ll want to miss.

James’ Gypsy will be making her eerie return after 18:15 – we’ve changed it round a bit. We’ll be giving her a scenario that has already happened – and she has to “predict” what happened next. Let hilarity ensue.

New unreleased music from the likes of M.I.A, The Mystery Jets and Yolanda Be Cool. If you haven’t heard Yolanda yet (most people have by now!) – its the hottest thing to hit dance/house since Sidney Samson & ‘Riverside’. Stay tuned for that in the ext. Pick N Mix.

Finally then. Birmingham. We have secured equipment & transport to be able to do a live feed on the day – I (Luke) & a few of the team will be down there on the day to support our bands, and Sean will be on the decks from 105.5 HQ. Teehee – HQ. Besides that exciting development, which will, by the way, be happening on 7th July - we have more news about Unsigned Rewind.

Having interviewed Guitar Stools & Cigarettes – Youth Festival ‘09 headliners and generally brilliant acoustic band – we asked them if they’d like to join us on the 30th June for an Unsigned Rewind – as its the last week before we dash to Birmingham the week after. They accepted – and so you will be able to hear them on the show on the 30th from 19:00. The podcast will be made downloadable as usual!

Wow. I am all updated-out. Hope that makes for interesting reading for ‘ya, enjoy the show!

So… Er. Bored?

Probably.

Want something more interesting? That’s a shame, because here’s this week’s “The Bits That Weren’t Crap” from The Edge! Every week (unless it was just appalling) I’ll bother to try and find something half decent from the show and upload it for you to provide you with a high brow form of theatrical radio-tainment. Ready? Here they come…

Jenny picked Tom’s team out as part of our Wednesday Night World Cup Sweepstake. But, does anyone know where it is?

We had a quick chat about the European dance queen, Inna.

Luke does ‘his fang’ on this week’s ‘installment’ of Luke’s Love-In!

I’m also being forced to put up the parodies that we’ve done so far this year (like a small, prematurely born baby deer with all four shaking legs quivering under the almighty overpowering shadow of Luke Winton) but I might not. WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME, HEY?

If that hasn’t cured your boredom then go do something else. ‘kay?

Unsigned Rewind with 17 Nations…and our new Downloads page!

17 Nations in the studios

17 Nation's on Unsigned Rewind

The show this week was busy and a pleasant surprise – if you can imagine that blended in your mind.

Firstly, busy because of the amount of people in the office! We were inundated with office dwellers – a combination of James, my team & parents of 17 Nations! Our latest Unsigned Rewind since Patchwork Prophets, and as I said on-air – I was told 17 Nations weren’t going to be very good, but I ignored that cynic because I had heard them at Youth Festival ‘09 and loved them! I also explained how I got them confused with the Debuts because I didn’t write down their name. Oops.

17 Nations were a nice bunch of guys who did us a fantastic acoustic session. Not all bands can step into a studio and pull off an unplugged performance like that. Especially not such a young band! 14 years old and performing acoustically that well! Incredible!

17 Nations also told us how they had got through to the regional final of a competition that will lead them to the O2 Academy in Birmingham in July, that we have happily signed up to work with and go down to cheer them on. Hopefully, if all goes well, we’ll get a bit of their performance up here on the blog! Thank you very much to them for coming in and being so brilliant – HA to Jenny who assumed they would be rubbish, and best of luck at the O2 guys!

Hear the podcast of the full show at www.lukewinton.co.uk/podcasts

One more brief thing to mention. Podcasts & Downloads. You’ll notice a new button on the navigation bar on the homepage, with that title for a page. Clicking on it will take you to our brand new podcast page, where you can hear the full shows with bands such as Anaheim, Patchwork Prophets, Chuck Co-Stars and now 17 Nations. This will be updated after every Unsigned Rewind and will also feature other guests as they come in! Enjoy!

Ciao!

Wanna see something REALLY boring?

… well it’s your lucky day! Yesterday, there was some discussion (that didn’t last long) about whether Luke and I should do a video tour of the studios. Luke said no ’cause he:

A) Couldn’t be bothered and
B) Was actually quite busy recording something for his show

So, I took the bull by the horns (so to speak) and recorded one by myself. If you’re a radio geek or are just interested to hear where the dulcet tones of Luke Winton are broadcast from, then this is for you!

Paintballing, Platform & Prophets

We went Paintballing!

We went for a spot of paintballing for my Birthday (and Mike's!) - from left to right - Alan, Sally, Becky, Seb, Me (Luke), Jenny, James, Sean, Hannah, Alex, Mike!

It’s been a bit of a whirlwind week for everyone.

The show last week with Patchwork Prophets went really well, some excellent live tracks and a good ol’ chat about what is coming up for them in the near future. They did us a brilliant jingle – following in the footsteps of Chuck Co-Stars! Some great live session tracks too, hear some of the clips below!

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

After the show last week, two of us had a youth festival meeting on the Thursday night. The festival planning is off to a good start, and we will reveal more information about what is happening at the fest this year, in coming months.

Friday it was the day I have been ranting about for weeks – my 16th birthday – so everyone was a bit all over the place. We spent most of the morning and afternoon down at The Platform – namely sound engineering for an event there. On the bill there was Nicole (or Nicola? I get confused), Patchwork Prophets, William Hargreaves and Vicious of the Beloved. Had a decent time up there, strongly recommend that lineup as well!

Then it was a rush down to the Furnace for 7.30pm to go and watch Teenage Kicks. Party Scene, Chuck Co-Stars, The Costellos and Patchwork Prophets (headliners!) made up the full lineup. More brilliant local music. The Costellos are still absolutely incredible in my eyes. So much so, infact, that I had TWO very long exams yesterday, and the hook to ‘Bobby Vodka’ and ‘Hello Costello’ were firmly rooted in my head. Patchwork Prophets ended the night on a high – a more-than-worthy band to headline.

Even got a nice shoutout from Mike (lead vocals of Patchwork) for my birthday, which was nice of him, seeing as it was his birthday too.

Saturday was a pretty chilled day. Sunday, as you can see from the photo above, a large group of us headed to Reading for a day of paintballing. James off of The Edge was absolutely petrified of getting shot, but I think he enjoyed it in the end. Patchwork Prophets (or three of them!) joined us, and it was a pretty good laugh. The majority of what I remember is fearing for my life, sliding under enormous bits of wood to avoid getting shot, and shouting at one of the Prophets before getting shot in the back of the head. Needless to say, our team lost dreadfully – but it is worth mentioning that the orange team (our devilish opponents) were second to none in the world of cheating – and it took a good 79 shots in order to take one of the behemoths down. When I say behemoths, their ages ranged from about 7 to about 12.

All of this will be discussed tonight on the show. Also, we’ll be talking about my opinion of BGT winners ‘Spelbound’ – which will no doubt be comical. And controversial. They’re crap.

Tune in tonight from 6pm for all of this & more!

Luke

BIRTHDAY CAKE!

CAKE!

Our resident Nanny texter baked me a cake!

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

There is nothing nicer, on one’s day of birth, to receive a cake baked with love by one’s favourite texting grandma.

Regular listeners will know that one of our producers, Hannah, is related to Nanny Fox. If you don’t know who Nanny Fox is, she is pretty big ’round Swindon! Literally every show, Nanny Fox sends us at least one lovely text. We’ve even made an alarm that we play when she texts in – well, er, Sean and Hannah it.

It’s my birthday tomorrow, and I’ll be 16. Not content with just sending a birthday wish in a text, Nanny Fox baked this big cake for me, complete with smarties and icing – and asked Hannah to bring it in. We nommed most of the cake during our production meeting – and then Ian & Amanda from Drivetime came out to polish off the last little bits. We did snap a few photos of the cake though.

It was very tastey, and pretty much summed up the show last night. We had a week off of guests after having a jam-packed (no pun intended) show last week. Last night, full of cake, we discussed the pros and cons of leaving school, how to apply for college and moving on in life. After 7 we did the usual Talent Taster and Pick N Mix, and featured a FANTASTIC band from Oxford called Alphabet Backwards – who are bloody brilliant – with their new track called Polar Bears, out June 21st.

If you’ve got Spotify, you can hear ‘Polar Bears’ here: Alphabet Backwards – Polar Bears; or you can download the track from iTunes. Ten pence of every download goes to the WWF – ‘cuz the tracks about saving Polar Bears, durr!

Thanks for tuning & texting, and we’ll see anyone popping down to the Furnace for Teenage Kicks tomorrow night!

Ciao!

Pendulum & Sub Focus rock the Oasis!

Walking into the venue made me remember the last Pendulum gig at the Oasis – the overwhelming heat mainly. Thank god, then, that some bright spark at the Oasis or the Council decided to purchase lots and lots of enormous fans and place them around the room, as well as providing security guards with hair spray bottles full of water. Well played – seeing as people fainted last time.

Sub Focus kicked off the night at around 8pm. A video of a bit of their set can be found above. They dropped a few well known tunes – ‘Rock It’ was the igniter, followed by ‘Could This Be Real’ off their self-titled album and a nice surprise – thier homegrown remix (which IS released as far as I know) of deadmau5’s/Rob Swire’s ’Ghosts N Stuff”. Great set to be honest – the producer (his name escapes me) being inside a giant circle of colourful lights was quite interesting too, matches their album artwork. The only downside? As one of the slimy shirtless clan pointed out to me, and the rest of the room – quite loudly – the MC that accompanied the set was quite annoying – especially in the fact that he assumed we had some form of chronic amnesia, and decided that it would be best if he spewed the name ‘Sub Focus’ out of his mouth every sixty seconds, like a minigun.

The effect of the fans wore off once Pendulum were onstage and kicking – everyone jumping around to the first few tracks sort of made the room into a modern conventional oven. At this point, I would like to thank the boy who was stood infront of me during Sub Focus’s set for washing his hair prior to the event, and I would like to thank the large lady infront of me during Pendulum for acting as a gigantic impact barrier. That was particularly handy when a mosh pit – formed by a group of slimy shirtless boys – spawned next to me. She managed to block most of the onslaught, though she did keep trying to push me backwards as well – which was offensive in some ways. Also angered by this offensive use of weight, a small redheaded girl next to me decided to fully launch the larger lady forwards into the crowd with all of her armpower, at which point the enormous (in comparison) woman turned around and, with the face of Vicky Pollard donned, continued to sumo wrestle the tiny redhead backwards. Soon after this, she vanished. That was by far the highlight of my night, and I did continually laugh for a good five minutes afterwards.

There was also the usual idiots who try to physically barge their way through the crowd. Not only is this rude, but some people – like me – will attempt to push you back if you try this. This did not seem to come as a warning to a rather tall brunette, who elbowed me in the face as she barged past me, so when I shoved her sideways into the crowd she proceeded to tell me to ‘f*ck off’. What an example to society. One thing that did strike me was the amount of older people at the gig. I mean, you had the usual crowd of 13-19 year old’s bouncing around at the front, but a large part of the audience was made up of those aged well over 30.

Feel free to tune in on Wednesday, after seven – when I’ll have a good old rant about all the ‘interesting’ characters which I met at the gig. Trust me, there is many a funny story there.

Pendulum dropped tunes both new & old – the older generation consisted of the likes of ’Tarantula’, ‘Voodoo People’ & ‘Hold Your Colour’. Whilst on the newer front, they played ‘Witchcraft’, ‘Watercolour’ and ‘Island’ (parts 1 and 2). An incredible set.

Catch our chat about the gig on Wednesday from 7pm, and we’ll also play you something off their new album.

It’s been talked about on the show for weeks. Today is the day.

I’ll be getting ready to take a stroll down to the Oasis Leisure Centre once I’ve written this. I didn’t actually know that I would be going until my Dad slipped up yesterday and asked my Mum to wash his ‘Never too old to rock’ t-shirt to go to the gig.

Pendulum are, of course, returning to the Oasis. We posted a couple of weeks back with how to buy tickets. I went to the last gig that Pendulum did at the Oasis and it was bloody brilliant – so quite pleased to be going again. Having been ’surprised’ with the tickets for my birthday – I didn’t know who the support act was until my Dad told me. Sub Focus are supporting the tour – wow. I’ve never seen Sub Focus live, so that will be a new experience.

We’ve given ‘Watercolour’ and ‘Witchcraft’ off of the album first-play’s on the show over the last 2-3 weeks, and I’ve bought my copy. What a fantastic release. For anybody else popping down there tonight – then we’ll probably talk about it on the show on Wednesday – especially seeing as Producer Hannah is also going down to the gig. Look out for a bit of a mini-review of the gig and more tracks off the album coming up on the show over the few weeks!

Jonathan’s Jungle Roadshow

Last week on the show we had a beast man in.

His name was Jonathan.

So anyway, I’m going to stop with the basic sentences. But our guest brought in a snake in called Rafiki, a tarantula called Ruby, some stick insects and some geckos called Stumpy and Peaches. He told the listeners all about the animals and told us how he goes to different schools and helps out with lessons talking about habitats, life cycles or other things that help with their topic but also gives them the opportunity to get close to the minibeasts. He chooses a selection of animals to take to schools, pre schools and colleges to help with their learning. He used to be a teacher and so the experience helps him to pass on his passion of knowledge of reptiles.

He also told us about the many names he has been given. For example “Reptile bloke”, “Jungle man” and my personal favourite “beast man”. He keeps 120 different species but refused to tell us how much it costs to keep so many animals.

He got the animals out for us before the show started and then he also got them out while we were on air and described what they looked like to the listeners. As soon as Ruby the tarantula was pulled out, Producer Jess jumped up in her chair as far away as possible. After the 7 o’clock news we took pictures out in the office with the animals, Luke will put some more of those up shortly.

Anyway - here is a link to Jonathan’s Jungle Roadshow online, tell friends and family about it okay? http://www.jonathansjungleroadshow.co.uk/index.html

Much love

4th June Teenage Kicks

Teenage Kicks 4th June at the Furnace

We’ve been to one of these before, but the lineup to this is bloody brilliant!

Teenage Kicks is back at the Furnace on the 4th June, with the four bands above. If you heard the show a couple of weeks back, you would have heard my speechlessness at the talent that is The Costellos. I am sure that James would tell you – whenever we are in the office, and I play the Costellos MySpace, I continue with ranting about how amazing they are. He gets annoyed.

The 4th of June is my birthday also ;) Ticket prices are varying rather a lot at the moment, as bands are offering different prices to compete with each other. Check with band members from any of the lineup, or buy from the sites listed at the bottom of the poster. Get yourself down to the Furnace for this one, will be a wicked night!

If you want to hear more info on this on-air, then tune in on the 26th when we’ll be doing an Unsigned Rewind show with Patchwork Prophets, and I have also managed to persuade the mighty shy Status Wise, off of Status Promotions, to pop in to the studios! I was shocked she accepted, in all honesty! Finally getting her on the show – you won’t want to miss that.
